EXT-RET Switch for Black Jack Trailer Jack

SKU BJTJ-SW1 Category

Replacement EXT\RET Switch for Black Jack, rated at 50 amps.

Some of the cheap copy jacks of the original Black Jacks still use a 15-amp rated switch. This is underrated for a jack that can pull 28-amps under normal operating conditions. That means the switches tend to deform internally from excess current and become intermittent and then fail.

The genuine Black Jack replacement switch is rated at 50-amp and will not be subject to the issues associated with the lower rated switches on cheaper copy jacks.

This is a spare part for the Black Jack Trailer Jack Original (2020-2025) only. This will not fit the Black Jack Mini, Master or Maxi.

It will fit a ZONE RV Power Jack, Outback Jack, Sunrise Jack and Gator jack.

FREE Shipping and leaves our Brisbane warehouse same day if ordered before 12.30 PM.

The genuine Black Jack replacement switch is rated at 50-amp and will not be subject to the issues associated with the lower rated switches on cheaper copy jacks. It will fit a ZONE RV Power Jack, Outback Jack, Sunrise Jack and Gator jack.   A short story about these switches……
  • When we first introduced the Black Jack to Australia in 2020, we experienced some failures with the EXT\RET switches. At first, they became intermittent and then failed to work. We reported the issue to the manufacturer who was hesitant to do anything. Eventually in 2022, they agreed to upgrade the switches from a 16-amp to a 25-amp rating. But we still had issues. Not as many but we wanted zero issues.

  • We conducted tests on the switches to show that normal operation current was 5 to 28-amps so the 25-amp switches should be ok. The issue is what we call “terminal current”. This is the current that occurs when the user keeps their finger on the button when the jack is fully retracted or fully extended. The current was measured up to 52-amps. Over time, this terminal current that goes through the switch to the motor, deforms the internal anodes within the switch causing intermittent issues and eventual failure.

  • In early 2024 we finally convinced the manufacturer that this was the problem. We also convinced the switch manufacturer SAJOO that it was an issue with the Black Jacks. They only agreed to upgrade our switches to 50-amp rating provided we did not seek a change to the tooling that would require expensive injection mold tooling cost that was not justified by our relatively small volumes. They did agree to make the color on the back of the switch white (previously black) to signify it was a higher rated 50amp switch. The result is that the 50-amp white switches still read 16-amp on the back of the switch as it would have been cost prohibitive to change the molding.

  • These upgraded switches were installed on all Black Jack originals after April 2024 and we have had zero issues with them. Of course they cost us more, but we are happy to pay for the quality remembering that bad taste and poor quality linger long after the expenses is forgotten.

  • Regrettably, some of the cheap copy jacks on the market still use the 16-amp switch that are prone to failures. The 50-amp Black Jack switches will fit a ZONE RV Power Jack, Outback Jack, Sunrise Jack and Gator Jack.
